Dear, Friends of Woolcott and Company. Sadly, yesterday was Woolcott's last day in business.

Woolcott and Company was a destination here in Harvard Square for many knitters and crocheters. Over the 32 plus years she was open, many, many friends have been made. I was always amazed at the degree of love that was shown to us not just from those who live close by, but also by those who visited the area. Those long-distance relationships have lasted many, many years. These relationships and interactions are the very things I will miss the most.

It is always a terrible day when a long-time local establishment closes its doors. Unfortunately this seems to be a sign of the difficult times we are in. Perhaps, in time, things will change. But that change won't come without the concerted efforts by the consumer. I urge you to pay close attention to where and how you spend your discretionary income. I cannot urge you to spend money you do not have. But when you spend your money think carefully where you are spending it. Will you be supporting a large corporation, or a small business? The choice is yours.

The most common refrain I heard during our last few days was, "Where will I go for my yarn and help with my projects?" In the next few days I will be building a "Links" page with the names and addresses and (if applicable) hyperlinks to local area yarn shops. The only way these shops will survive is if YOU support them. Without your patronage the Local Yarn Shop and the culture it provides will become a thing of the past.

I have also begun a personal-knitting-assistant service. You can find information about it at:

personalknitter.com

I will be available for private lessons, group lessons, shopping trips, etc.

Stay in touch.

You will be missed.

Sean and the staff at Woolcott.

Fare Well!
